Description

Connecticut has been home to generations of incredible talent- including writers, artists, musicians, actors, and dancers. We created our “Connecticut Notables” Collection to honor the people who have made our small state a great place for the arts. The first in our Connecticut Notables Collection, our ”Twirl” Lewitt art print was created in honor of Hartford native and founder of Conceptual art, Sol Lewitt.

This piece is a nod to his Wall Drawing #1131 (Whirls and Twirls) which is installed at the Wadsworth Atheneum. His emphasis was commonly process based, but not always predictable or logical. Lewitt understood that execution of lines depends upon the artist’s perspective and strongly encouraged the idea of artist as architect. For this piece, we created our own fluid pattern, using basic shapes to give movement through color and composition. A system was formulated for placing color in their specific locations and each color was hand carved separately on its own linoleum block. Designed and printed by Kaitlin Lennon.
